Great stuff on the animations. And good work today re: all the HTMl and coding stuff. Super impressed by everyone's work ethic and design choices thus far.

Go here for information on how to use FTP software like Fetch to upload to ASU!

Also, final projects are due Monday May 3, 2010. We'll critique the portfolio sites and have a bit of a party. Also, you must have your prints for the exhibition to me by the end of May 3 2010- Monday's class. We'll hang the show on May 7th at 5:15ish. Show will run from 6pm-8pm at Cornerstone on Rural and University (Northeast corner).

Animation Project Due 4/19/10

Stop Motions will be due next week Monday 4/19/2010. Shorts must be a minimum of 30 seconds long; I'm fingers-crossed for longer. :)

Also, a quick reminder for you all to continue blogging. Please post your ideas for your animation project on your blog with a contextualization of the piece and how it makes sense of the "public vs. private" theme.

Live Art Platform - This Wednesday 3/24/10

This Wednesday, March 24th, is the third Live Art Platform of the semester. If you have been working in a project that in one way or another includes performance, body, or live art, please consider LAP as a venue. Your piece might or might not be completed, it might be part of a bigger project you have in mind, or it might be simply a quick performance piece you came up with ten minutes before the show.... Anyone can participate! Please tell everyone you know.

When: This Wednesday, March 24th.
Where: Room 127 of the Performing and Media Arts building at Arizona State University (also known as the Cornerstone Building).

Really impressed by the quality and breadth of the exhibited work this morning. I'd also like to commend you all on the critique process as I feel it went very well and the peer feedback was helpful, constructive, and very beneficial.

1). Research and select 3 Sound Installations / Performances to discuss in class
2). Paragraph analysis / contextualization of sound pieces on blog
3). Be prepared to share 1 of your selected sound performances with the class

Open Gallery/Studio/Exhibition tomorrow Tuesday, Feb. 16th, 2010 (6:00-9:00pm) in my studio CDS03 in the basement of the Design Building South. Here's a map.

ABOUT SUMMONED SURVEILLANCE:
Through an established live video / web feed in the artists’ shared studio, Summoned Surveillance invites online viewers to remotely observe and interact in real-time with the artists through a computer web browser.

The new-genre, performance piece is meant to explore a range of issues including those related to privacy and voyeurism, intellectual property, and public and self-scrutiny. The installation investigates both the synthesis and disconnect between the actual and virtual realms, the artificial (re)presentation of reality in the electronic world, and contemporary culture’s obsession with watching reproduced realism in the media. Thanks for a wonderful first class; I'm excited to work with all of you this semester. I'll be compiling a contact list with emails (and possibly phone numbers) seeing as we'll be working in groups throughout the semester. If you have a digital camera, please bring it (and accompanying USB / Firewire cables) to class on Monday of next week. After the lecture we'll most likely delve into our first exercise. IDM 194

ART 194, Intro to Digital Media, is a studio course that concentrates on the fundamentals of digital media including imagery, sound, video, animation, and the web. Assignments are given to engage students in the technical, conceptual, and aesthetic aspects of digital media. Students will employ a diverse range of techniques and software as they become familiar with contemporary artistic processes involving the use of the computer and/or other technologies. The class will consist of hands-on experimentation and production supplemented by slide lectures, videos, visiting artists, and academic research.

This course may be substituted for the Art Major requirement of ART 113, Color, for Intermedia and Digital Art majors. All other majors require a petition to substitute this course for ART 113, Color. If you have already taken ART 113, this course may be counted as an art elective. However, keep in mind it is a 100-level elective. Please see your academic advisor for more specific information.
